Student Blogging Challenge Week 3

Hello world,

As you know I am involved in the Student Blogging Challenge. this means I have to complete certain tasks each week. Last Week’s theme was commenting. It meant that I had to learn about the guidelines and restrictions of commenting let alone making a poster. We also commented on four other people.. I learnt a lot from this task. This week’s task is the use of commenting and how it can emphasise our posts and make them a lot more interesting.

Activity 1: Write a post about a favourite time with your family.

I Did not have permission to insert a picture of my folks but I will describe them to you. I have two older brothers called Harry and Jamie and a dog named Cooper. I have a Mum and a Dad who mean the world to me!

I am going to write this as a story so you can feel like you are in the moment with us. I love my family very much so I will write emotively.

We sat. Our eyes gleamed as we were concentrated on the colourful screen which was flickering like a candle on a windy night. We were watching TV. Now this would usually occur in disagreements but no, not today. The mood was fluctuating. Suddenly Dad cracked a joke., a “Dad Joke”. It was really really bad.

But it made us giggle at first, and then laugh and then roll on the floor laughing until our sides ached and we could laugh no more. Mum ( Australian spelling) who at the time was having a sufficient chuckle decided that she would crack a joke too! This was a average knock knock joke but it was so funny! We started the whole process over again by giggling and then laughing and finished of by rolling on the floor laughing!

These are the good times we are so privileged to have with such caring people to share them with.

Activity 2: Write a post about a person who has passed away.

I decided to create a video about a great Australian man. His name is Steve Irwin and he had a spectacular way with animals here is a video to describe him in a bit more detail. Here is the link to it:

Activity 3. Add at least one new widget to your sidebar

In Edublogs we can have a range of widgets. Widgets are little things which you put in your sidebar. You can display many things in these widgets such as the number of visitors you have. Sue Waters from Edublogs has written a post including 42 widgets.

I have chosen to add a languages option for a widget. This will enable people to change the language in which the posts are written. I thought that this would be useful because I get a lot of visitors in my flag counter from many different countries around the world.

Activity 4. What have you learnt about using images on your blog?

I have learnt that I have to be careful when using images. I have to make sure I have permission from the owner making sure it is okay to use their images. I also know that I need to get permission from those in the images as they may not want to be see on the internet. And definatly stay safe!

Keep being awesome!

  2. G’day Claire,
I did visit earlier today and read your great post then I flipped it to the magazine. Adding a language widget will be very helpful, especially if our Serbian students visit your blog. Have you visited one of them yet? They have the blogs with a weebly URL in the list.

  3. I am sending Sue Water’s post of 42 widgets to our beginning bloggers. You are a wealth of information, Claire. I enjoy reading all of your posts!
