Is Santa Claus Coming To Town?

Hello world,

I would like to remind you of the true meaning of christmas. That Jesus was born  to bring light into the lives of others and save us from our sins.

The Birth of Jesus

2 In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. 2 (This was the first census that took place while Quirinius was governor of Syria.) 3 And everyone went to their own town to register.

4 So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. 5 He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child.6 While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, 7 and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.

8 And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. 9 An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10 But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. 11 Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. 12 This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”

13 Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,

14 “Glory to God in the highest heaven,

and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”

15 When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.”

16 So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. 17 When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, 18 and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. 19 But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. 20 The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.

That is the story of christmas in just over 3 minutes. Make sure when you are ripping open presents and stuffing your mouth full of food this christmas you remember our saviour, Jesus.

So Long, Farewell Year 6

Hello world,

Sorry that I haven’t been posting recently as I am so busy as the end of year 6 is nearing. Today has been really fun as we reflected on the amazing times in year 6. There was still the distant feeling of sadness as we move from being the big fish in the small pond to the small fish in the big pond. There were many laughs to be shared and candy canes as the classroom filled with man hyper students.

This year has been the greatest year of my entire schooling experience. WE have had amazing teachers that have helped us make the transition to the senior school easy.

The memories I have made have been amazing. I have gained many amazing friends and have flourished with my learning and my personality. I will be sad leaving year 6 behind but i know high school will be a blast. I will try to keep blogging but for now farewell.

Keep being awesome!

Tiger’s In The Jungle!

Hello world,

Recently we have been reading Fish By L.S Matthews in class For Global Read Aloud. It is where we collaborate with other students across the world about the book. In this post I will be outlining Chapter 8 and showing you my storyboard. I also have a prediction for Chapter 9!

In Chapter 8 Tiger was awoken in the middle of the night to eat a strange root, which didn’t taste like mucha and a s a result of that Tiger has gained more respect for potatoes! After he was ‘asleep’ (he wasn’t actually asleep just pretended to be!) the Guide and Dad started talking about the men who visited earlier. The Guide was saying that they might return and the mountain men would take them as hostages. Dad and the Guide had that thought in the back of there mind as they were walking down the mountain that day. When all of a sudden the three men which they saw earlier started shooting at them and trying to get them. Tiger ran away and hid in a bush for a long time. Tiger tried to find the family and found a hole in the outcrop and decided to wriggle through it. He/She (Author has not told the gender) ended up in a cave. When Tiger was exploring the cave the men who tried to kill them came in and started to fight. One of them (Stocky) shot the youngest man who ran away. They went after him and Tiger had a chance to escape. Unfortunately the other men saw him and started running after him. Tiger had to find a place to hide and then he/she saw a river, which was filled with mud. Tiger jumped in. When he surfaced again he/she saw the younger man’s dead body and was re-united with his family!

My Storyboard:

Here is my prediction for Chapter 9:
I believe in chapter 9 the family will cautiously make their way to the border. But be denied access yet again and forced to live in a refugee camp. I think that they will have to stay in the camp for a long time and the war will catch up to them. As a result the family will be separated.

I promise to keep you updated on the happenings of the book. I hope you enjoyed the post!

Thinking About Thinking

Hello world,

Recently I have been thinking about thinking. Sometime you consciously think and other times you think without realising it. Everyone thinks. Whether it is at  home, in the classroom, on the toilet we think. I think about life’s big issues such as if we have an infinite source chocolate. Sometimes we think and then halfway through we change our mind just like this duck:

The dictionary says that thinking is the process of considering or reasoning about something. I agree to some extent. I also believe that thinking is having meaningful or pointless thoughts that you enjoy thinking about. I like thinking about food. Yes, it is pointless but it makes me feel good. Maths isn’t pointless but I don’t necessarily like thinking about it.

When I was younger and people used to say put your thinking cap on I went WHAT?!? There is such thing as a physical cap you put on your head to help you think. Obviously, I have realised that this was not literal but metaphorical.

There is a famous quote about thinking, which has inspired me from a very young age:

We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them. – Albert Einstein

This quote is saying. If you get into a problem think differently to get out of it. Whether it is a mathematical problem or one you face in the journey of life. THINK DIFFERENTLY! There are many people in this world who go along with the same routine everyday. Sit down at there desk and think the same things. This sounds boring, right? Change it up, think with a little bit of fun.

What do you think about?

Student Blogging Challenge Week 5

Hello world,

As you know I am involved in the Student Blogging Challenge. this means I have to complete certain tasks each week. Last Week’s theme was celebrating creatively. It meant that I had to learn about the appropriate time we change our themes for holidays and. We also commented on four other people.. I learnt a lot from this task. This week’s task is our food. This means that we have to research food that come from our country or comes to mind as soon as we think of our country. As a result of living in Australia i will be researching Australian food!

Write a post on food that is popular in your country.

There are two food that clearly represent Australia and are popular here. The two include damper and weet – bix.

Damper is a traditional Australian dish. It is bush tucker and many people make it when they go camping. It is traditionally baked in the coals of a campfire. Damper is an iconic Australian dish. Originally Damper came from with Indigenous Australians. Aboriginal women had traditionally made bush bread from seasonal grains and nuts, which they cooked in the ashes of fire.

  • 450g (3 cups) self-raising flour
  • Pinch of salt
  • 80g butter, chilled, cubed
  • 185ml (3/4 cup) water
  • Step 1

the flour and salt in a large bowl. Use your fingertips to rub the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs.

Step 2

Add the water to the flour mixture and use a round-bladed knife in a cutting motion to mix until the mixture just comes together, adding 1-2 tablespoons extra water if the mixture is a little dry. Use your hands to bring the mixture together.

Step 3

Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead gently for 1-2 minutes or until smooth. Shape into an 18cm disc and place on tray. Use a sharp knife that has been dipped in flour to mark 8 wedges on top. Dust the damper with a little extra flour and bake in preheated oven for 30 minutes or until the damper is cooked through and sounds hollow when tapped on the base. Transfer to a wire rack for 5 minutes to cool slightly. Serve warm or at room temperature.

If you serve it with maple syrup it tastes divine!

WEET – BIX I have been brought up on weet-bix since a young age.

Weet-bix are quite a filling breakfast. I like to have mine with brown sugar and strawberries but others have them in a smoothie or with different toppings.

Visit Inside Scoops Taco Tuesday post to learn what their students eat for lunch. Comment on their post.

At my school in Australia we have to bring in our own lunches for school. I really enjoy making my own lunch and bringing it to school as it gives me the freedom to eat what I like. Usually for lunch I would have some healthy tuna and crackers with an apple. I rather like my lunch as it gives me a nice healthy balanced diet.

Student Blogging Challenge Week 4

Hello world,

As you know I am involved in the Student Blogging Challenge. this means I have to complete certain tasks each week. Last Week’s theme was images. It meant that I had to learn about the guidelines and restrictions of using images let alone making a poster. We also commented on four other people.. I learnt a lot from this task. This week’s task is the use of celebrating creativity and how it can emphasise our blogs and make them a lot more fun.

Dress up your blog for halloween.

As a christian I don’t celebrate halloween and have never been trick or treating. Though one day I would like to go for fun and for the lollies! //My family has never adopted halloween as a thing we do so I have not been influenced. As a result of this if have made my blog header a picture of lollies to show the lollies you get. Otherwise my blog is the same!

Make a story or a poem.

I have decided to do both as I love writing. I made an acrostic poem and a narrative.

Heads turning, watching and waiting

All is revealed behind the wooden door

Lovely aromas crept from the cracks in the windows

Lots and lots of LOLLIES

Over the moon, we stuffed our plump faces

When we were done and our bellies were full

Everyone scampered inside

Ending what was the best Halloween ever

No more surprises….

My narrative:
We looked as yet another child disappeared through the rusty gates to the old house. Amy strolled to the door and some sort of hand took her by the scruff of the neck and she disappeared. Gone. Forever. I couldn’t believe my eyes and big drops fell down splashing onto my red cheeks and causing my eyes to go bloodshot. I didn’t know whether to try and be brave or be a wimp. I could run away and be selfish think only of myself not of the other scared children.

It all started that morning when we arose to orange decorations and the sickly sweet smell of lollies. It was Halloween. My anticipation had been bubbling like a volcano all day waiting to explode and go trick or treating. But today it felt different. There was some tension in the air and the uneasy actions of pedestrians suggested that something was happening. As much as I liked trick or treating I did not want to put myself at risk.

You see there is a man in our small village who always manages to pull a frail but creepy smile when he sees us; kids that are alone. His house has been standing on the corner Of Never Be Street for over a hundred years. But this house has a ghost. Who was killed by one of the previous owners of the house many many years ago. Many people say that the maroon bloodstains still cover the floor and walls. And it is said the man who currently owns the house was the murderer from 100 years ago. No one knows if these rumours are true as no one has ventured into the house or even the property for a long time.

When it was time to go trick or treating that evening I was taking particular precaution of the house and the street.

Right now I am looking at that house with afraid eyes. I, as a brave (Ilike to think) person took the risk of walking up the overgrown path and knocking with the rusty brown knocker That was soon answered by a hand that grabbed me….

Write about the history of Halloween.

Halloween, or once called Hallows Eve, is a time where many countries from around the world celebrate the dead. There are many fun activites people like to do such as trick or treating, carving jack-o-lanterns, dressing up, playing pranks, watchingscary movies, telling scary stories etc. Some even light candles and put them on garves as this day is about commemorating the dead.

Here is a short, educational video to watch and learn more. I got it From ENJOY!

Quote of The Month

Hello world,

I am sorry that I have not posted for a while and that I am a month behind on my quote if the month post it just that with the end of year 6 rapidly opproaching my schedule has been chocoblock ( as they would say, which means my schedule is so busy)! Here is this months quote:

This quote is so deep and I chose it because sometimes, as normal human beings, we decide to look at the bad things in life as apposed to the things we are so privilidged to have. I know that today I was feeling down about something that I did and I remebered that I am not perfect. In fact, I am far from perfect but it doesn’t mater because that is what makes me unique and it is what makes me, me!

I also think this quoute also teaches us that we should be happy because we are so lucky. We are privlidged to have caring family and friends and ready access to medical aid and food and water. This video shows how we can spread our happiness and love to help others.

This touching video implies that if we can help those in need we will be touched in the heart and in the soul. Money can’t buy our happiness we just need to be ourselves, go out there, and help others. If we do not have uch confidence in ourselves we can ask God for support and he, as a loving lord, will sho us the way lighting our path.

As a result of watching this video I have added a new widget which is a game about rising up towards hunger. It is a small and impactful way to get people to know about the conditions some people around the world live in.

What makes me happy?

There are many things that make me happy.  They include

– Friends

– Family

– School

My education is like precious gold to me. It is something I look forward to going to. Not only because I get to dee my amazing friends who mean the world to me but bacuase i get to learn which opens up new opportunities. I cannot imagine a single second to spend without them.

My family give me so much support from day to day life. The take me to events and that sort of stuff. But the love they give is incredible. It would heal the heart even it is shattered into a million fragile peices.

Finally, My friends. What an amzing bundle they are. They are so supportive and fun loving I cannot imagaing a world without them. They do so much to help me in matters such as support and help.

Everyone in my life has such a big imapct on me I just hope I can return the favour.

Keep being awesome!

Student Blogging Challenge Week 3

Hello world,

As you know I am involved in the Student Blogging Challenge. this means I have to complete certain tasks each week. Last Week’s theme was commenting. It meant that I had to learn about the guidelines and restrictions of commenting let alone making a poster. We also commented on four other people.. I learnt a lot from this task. This week’s task is the use of commenting and how it can emphasise our posts and make them a lot more interesting.

Activity 1: Write a post about a favourite time with your family.

I Did not have permission to insert a picture of my folks but I will describe them to you. I have two older brothers called Harry and Jamie and a dog named Cooper. I have a Mum and a Dad who mean the world to me!

I am going to write this as a story so you can feel like you are in the moment with us. I love my family very much so I will write emotively.

We sat. Our eyes gleamed as we were concentrated on the colourful screen which was flickering like a candle on a windy night. We were watching TV. Now this would usually occur in disagreements but no, not today. The mood was fluctuating. Suddenly Dad cracked a joke., a “Dad Joke”. It was really really bad.

But it made us giggle at first, and then laugh and then roll on the floor laughing until our sides ached and we could laugh no more. Mum ( Australian spelling) who at the time was having a sufficient chuckle decided that she would crack a joke too! This was a average knock knock joke but it was so funny! We started the whole process over again by giggling and then laughing and finished of by rolling on the floor laughing!

These are the good times we are so privileged to have with such caring people to share them with.

Activity 2: Write a post about a person who has passed away.

I decided to create a video about a great Australian man. His name is Steve Irwin and he had a spectacular way with animals here is a video to describe him in a bit more detail. Here is the link to it:

Activity 3. Add at least one new widget to your sidebar

In Edublogs we can have a range of widgets. Widgets are little things which you put in your sidebar. You can display many things in these widgets such as the number of visitors you have. Sue Waters from Edublogs has written a post including 42 widgets.

I have chosen to add a languages option for a widget. This will enable people to change the language in which the posts are written. I thought that this would be useful because I get a lot of visitors in my flag counter from many different countries around the world.

Activity 4. What have you learnt about using images on your blog?

I have learnt that I have to be careful when using images. I have to make sure I have permission from the owner making sure it is okay to use their images. I also know that I need to get permission from those in the images as they may not want to be see on the internet. And definatly stay safe!

Blog Action Day 2015

Hello world,

As an extra task for the Student Blogging Challenge we can enter ina additional challenge called the Blog Action Day. Blog ACtion Day is actually today. It is where bloggers from all around the world write a post about the same topic. This years topic is “Raise Your Voice”. This topic is quite significant as we need to raise our voices so much more than we do.

So many people in our world have raised their voice and got an amazing result. I have narrowed my selection to just three.

-Martin Luther King jr.

-Nelson Mandela

These people all used their voice to make things right. They stood for what they wanted and believed in themselves.

Malala was a girl who grew up in a small family. Her father owned a school and was the principle there. When the Taliban came along they started to bomb girls schools or schools that had a different religion to the one the believed in. By this time she was doing lots of speeches against the taliban and their plans for the future.  This resulted in her unfortunately being shot in the head.  She was moved to London to heal. She has now recovered and is doing great things for the awareness of girls education all around the world.

Malala has raised her voice to give girls education.

Martin Luther King was born as Michael King. He was a baptist, activist, humanitarian, and leader of the African-American Civil Rights Movement. He is best known for his speech  which has a very well known line which is:Screen Shot 2015-10-16 at 5.55.24 PM

Unfortunately Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated in 1968. He died believing in his words and doing the right thing and that is why this has inspired me my whole life.

Martin Luther King Jr. raised his voice and spoke f his beliefs that everyone should be treated equally.

Rolihlahla Mandela (his given name) was born in 1918. He went to a school where he was given the cristian name Nelson. Nelson Mandela began his studies for a Bachelor of Arts degree at the University College of Fort Hare but did not complete the degree there as he was expelled for joining in a student protest. I belive that this is where is journey began. Nelson was arrested in 1955 and released in 1988 and became president of South Africa in 1994. My favourite quote of his is:

Screen Shot 2015-10-16 at 5.53.41 PM

Why do these people inspire me to raise my voice?

All of these people have gone to great extents to get their voices heard. Nelson spent most of his life in prison. Malala was shot in the head. Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated. This inspires me to raise my voice despite my stage fright.

What do I want to raise my voice about?

I personally am quite aware for the constant bullying that disabled kids get and all children in general. Having a brother with a disability has shown me/exposed me to the unkind words people say. I feel deeply about this problem and my dream is to one day put a stop to this. I want to one day have someone feel safe about people around them because they know they aren’t going to be bullied. I have started with this simple but hopefully meaningful poster:

Screen Shot 2015-10-16 at 5.47.34 PM

That is the first step to raising my voice:

Now we can all learn from people who raise there voices for what they belive. We can even learn from barbie!

Keep being awesome!

Student Blogging Challenge Week 2

Hello world,

As you know I am involved in the Student Blogging Challenge. this means I have to complete certain tasks each week. Last Week’s theme was About Me. It meant that I had to make an about me page and an avatar. I learnt a lot from this task. This week’s task is commenting. We will learn to comment and the commenting Guidlines.

So our first activity is to practice leaving a comment below with a link to your post for an activity you’ve completed this week or last week. We have to comment on Mrs Smith’s I’m New Here post to work through the tasks in her post and then leave a comment on her post. Which was:

Hi Mrs. Smith,

I managed to get through all of your retired bloggers blogs. The posts were detailed and interesting. I especially liked Nicholas’s as I am rather sporty too! I also thoroughly enjoyed reading Greyson’s WWII German King Tiger Tank post. It was intriguing to know German heavy tank production started before the war around 1937. This made me think about why Germans did this. Were they preparing for war?

I now realise that i forgot to put my blog URL so people know where to visit.

Our second challenge was to make a video or poster on what we think are superior commenting guidelines. I have chosen to make a poster of my commenting guidelines.

I think I will decide to make a poster.

Screen Shot 2015-10-15 at 1.14.54 pm

We have to do 4 comments to 4 different people. here are my comments.

Hi Chloe,

I am also doing the student blogging challenge! This is a great and detailed post. You have clearly outlined, like Brianna said, the key elements to a good  comment. I especially agree with you rule: Do not post anything that would hurt someone’s feelings. This is extremely important. Keep on going you are doing really well!

Hi Rachel,

I am also doing the Student Blogging Challenge. This is a fantastic post! It clearly outlines the guidelines of a good comment. I like the poster design because it is simple yet effective! Keep going you are doing really well!
